What is ASHES, ASHES?

This has come up a lot recently.
There is some confusion as to whether it is dystopian or not.
This is debatable. It is not a dystopian like the Hunger Games or Brave New World or Divergent or Enclave. It has been compared to movies like I Am Legend (but without zombies), Omega Man, and The Day After Tomorrow.

Ashes, Ashes is set in the near future, in the first few months following a global pandemic, and a few years of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, floods and storms. There is no social order to speak of because humanity has been decimated and is in disarray. There is the fear of epidemic plague still, and random cataclysmic disasters. The climate is mercurial and unpredictable. It is a struggle merely to find food and shelter.

There is some semblance of order, both in the communal camps and in the remaining shreds of government, but society is fragmented and separated.

Here is the best description I have been able to come up with:

Ashes, Ashes is a post-apocalyptic, survivalist, adventure story.

  1. An accurate, succinct description. An adventure story about survivors in the tradition of Robinson Crusoe, Coral Island, Swiss Family Robinson and parts of the Patrick O’Brien saga.

    1. Aubrey! I love that you did manga art for the book and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
