My definition of bravery is believing and standing up in what you think is right no matter what happens. Going on no matter what, not hiding in a corner. Speaking out for what you believe. Not giving up on others and running away to do the best for you, but helping others do what they need to do even if you push yourself to great lengths and may end up in great consequences. Basically perservering through your hard times and standing up for what you think it is right even if no one else agrees. Sometimes facing your fears in order to help others in need. That is what I call Bravery. 🙂
Hm, because I’m not a superhero, I tend to think about bravery in terms of emotional risk. There are different kinds of bravery but one I see all the time is students who struggle against peer pressure. I work with younger kids, so I’m not talking about drugs, really, but bullying. Often, being brave is about making the difficult choice when you know there are going to be consequences–sometimes awful ones. Bravery is also about putting others needs before your own.
Bravery – is being there for your friend in their time of need and setting your own feelings/tears aside to help them get through – knowing all along it is the last thing you can do…….
When most people think about bravery they think about conquering, the best most bravest people get everything. When I think about bravery though I think about sacrifice. When you are brave you have to think about things other than yourself. We have it all through out history people give up there lives to fight that is brave leaving and willing knowing that you may never come home that is brave. Helping someone that other people think are uncool and may never talk to you again for talking to that is brave. Standing up for what you believe in if you think it is truly right and not caring what other people think that is brave. We need more brave people in this world like the characters in your people should be brave.
Bravery is listening to your internal moral compass in all situations regardless of what the people around you think or do. Having the courage to speak up to protect or defend someone from being beaten down for no reason, obeying the laws because you understand them and not because you have to or others are, and not setting limitations on other people because of your own fear or ability to. bravery is believing in yourself, facing your fears and doing something the best you can even when you’re scared half to death.
Bravery is taking your beliefs and putting them into action – regardless of the personal cost. Usually we’d like to think that bravery is associated with a positive socially acceptable belief system, but I guess the truth is that it’s not always seen as positive or based on something socially acceptable. I guess there is where the personal cost comes in. Not all belief systems are acceptable or considered to be positive. In the states, we’ve become quite polarized about certain things, and depending on society, sometimes standing against something is just as brave as standing in support of the same thing. I think that being brave in this modern era is about being true to yourself and your beliefs – regardless of the popular way of thinking. It’s about counting the cost and being true to yourself – like Don Quiote in The Impossible Dream
I think bravery is just doing what needs to be done no matter how scared you are to do it. I usually skip over “brave” acts like running into a burning building. We all know that’s brave. I see bravery as small quiet everyday acts. To me that is more brave.
Bravery is finding the courage to go on even when things seem extremely trying or difficult. It involves putting aside self and personal interests to do what needs to be done.
