Just did a reading and talk with the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th grades at the New Ross School. Some of them actually gave up their free period/floor hockey game to come and listen to me jabber.
I had to talk a lot about decapitating turtles, skinning rabbits, and knowing Tupac Shakur to keep their attention off the puck and hockey sticks, but it was really fun!
Note: They’re losing their wonderful librarian (who facilitated the reading) due to funding cuts. It is unimaginable to me to think of kids attending a school without a library.
We need to think about the long term consequences and our kids’s futures, everyone!
How right you are about the need for libraries. We have threats of closure in the U.K. too. Local and school libraries are vital, especially for those who do not have access to a wealth of books at home.
